Robyn Woodward

As one of our Canadian members, Robyn has served two terms on the ACUA representing the interests of avocational archaeologists and maritime museums. She has a diverse background including a BA in the History of Art from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario; a B.Sc. in Conservation of Archaeological Materials from University College in Cardiff, Wales; and a MA in Anthropology (Nautical Archaeology) from Texas A&M University. In between degrees, Robyn spent a year with the Institute of Nautical Archaeology (INA) in Turkey as their conservator and was a Research Associate working in Jamaica for five years. She is currently working towards her Ph.D. in Archaeology at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, studying the landscape and economic history of the early 16th century Spanish sugar industry in the Caribbean, Jamaica in particular. Robyn has lived in Vancouver, BC since 1989 and has been on the boards and served as chair of both the Vancouver Maritime Museum (VMM) and the Underwater Archaeology Society of British Columbia (UASBC). She is currently chair of the Board of Governors of the VMM. Robyn has written numerous articles and presented papers at conferences in North America and Europe on underwater archaeology and sub-sea technology. Robyn lectures part-time through the Department of Classical Studies and Continuing Education at the University of British Columbia and the Archaeology Department at Simon Fraser University.
